H.265 but is formally called HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding)
- Incorporates support for displays up to 7680×4320
- Allows for a wider color gamut (10 bits per channel as compared to the current eight)
- Implements progressive scan.
- Targets a much lower bitrate; tests indicate that HEVC can deliver H.264 High Profile quality using half the number of bits.
- The new standard achieves markedly lower bitrates by amping up the amount of processing power required to handle the final image. This could mean we’ll see a split between H.264 and H.265, at least initially, with the older standard used for mobile devices where battery power is a greater consideration, and the new standard used more for PCs and televisions connected to the wall...
Aunque contempla la posibilidad de aumentar mucho la resolución, a unos niveles de momento innecesarios, lo más interesante es que tiene previsto mejorar la calidad y duplicar la compresión del estándar anterior (H.264). Claro, a costa de potencia del micro... pero aún está en desarrollo, ya veremos que pasa.
